Making Bees 🐝

My lovely bumblebee jasper earrings are complete! Sure it’s a little on the nose to have bees in earrings made with bumblebee jasper but like, how could I resist?! This was such a fun project I can’t wait to do the next one.

I’ve been experimenting with sand casting lately and I think I’ve got the just of it. It has a lot of limitations and is no good for detailed work-BUT- you can reuse the moulds and the carved waxes instead of destroying them every time. Plus it’s something I can do in-house and don’t have to send out. I think it’s perfect for this project.

Plant a Tree, Save the Bees

Did you know they can run DNA tests on honey to see where the pollen came from? Like you can track what bees are doing well and what they’re eating and where. Science blows my mind sometimes! 

Also flowering trees are apparently the best thing you can plant for bees. 🐝 They like taking the same kind of pollen at a time and can use tree parts for their homes... somehow? I wasn’t super clear on that part. Are they like brides and build hives from like sticks and twigs?

Bee Pals

Do the bees still even need saving? I don’t know. I just like the idea of planting a colourful garden that’s useful to them and pretty for me🌷🌼🌸🌻 bees are cool and if they had bigger brains I think we’d be pals.
