Jeweller's bench:
Smokey quartz, brass pendant.
Very often I find myself naming pieces I've created (usually my favourites). This particulare pendant I took to calling The Earth King's Crown. Maybe its silly but the design was inspired by fault lines in the earth, and the setting for the rich smokey quartz felt like a crown.
This stone has great colour, but its main feature is the cut. This stone is big, but very shallow. This allows more light to pass through, lightening up the colour. It also saves space in behind the stone. A proper round cut would have stuck out too much from the flat cutout design behind. Of course this means light doesnt refract properly in the stone, but I think because of its dark colour its a great solution anyways.
